Guantanamo Bay personnel 'shocked' by Cuba news

U.S. military personnel at Guantanamo Bay told The Daily Beast that they are "shocked" by the announcement of improved U.S.-Cuba relations.
On Wednesday, ABC News reported that Alan Gross would be freed from Cuban prison after five years in captivity. President Obama will issue a statement Wednesday about U.S.-Cuban relations, following Gross' release.
"Things have been operating as normal here," Kelly Wirfel, a Guantanamo Bay Naval Base spokesperson, told The Daily Beast. "Nothing gets discussed with Cuba except administrative issues."

Wirfel added that the Naval Station Guantanamo Commander has monthly meetings with his counterpart in the Cuban army, but she said there was "nothing out of the ordinary" in the meetings.
