Apple ends online sales in Russia as ruble falls
Apple has stopped its online sales in Russia thanks to the "extreme" fluctuations in the value of the ruble. Since there are no Apple stores in Russia, online shopping is Russian customers' primary way to buy the technology company's products.
"Our online store in Russia is currently unavailable while we review pricing," Alan Hely, an Apple spokesperson, told Bloomberg.
Western sanctions and falling oil prices have sent the currency's value plummeting over the past few weeks. Apple previously dealt with fluctuations in the currency by increasing its prices in Russia by 25 percent, Bloomberg notes.
