President Obama has issued a statement about the newly released CIA torture report, saying that it has damaged "America's standing in the world."

Obama emphasized the fact that he ended the CIA's detention and interrogation program when he took office, saying the interrogation methods used on terrorism suspects were "inconsistent with our values as a nation." The president added that the techniques "did not serve our broader counterterrorism efforts," and they "did significant damage to America's standing in the world."
