Darren Wilson, the Ferguson, Missouri, police officer who shot and killed teenager Michael Brown Aug. 9, is in negotiations with the city to resign, sources tell CNN.
The sources say that Wilson wants to resign in order to protect his fellow officers, but wants to make sure it doesn't look like a sign of guilt.
Wilson's resignation could be announced as early as Friday. A St. Louis County grand jury is still deliberating on whether or not to indict him, and the sources say if charges are filed, Wilson could change his mind about resigning.
