Heroic man saves baby from drowning in sunken car

When Leo Moody, 44, saw an overturned SUV in a culvert in Maine's Kossuth Township on his way home from work on Monday, he was quick to jump to the rescue.

Moody, a logger, crawled into the car and used a knife to cut the baby's car seat straps and pull her to safety. Another bystander, Wade Shorey, performed CPR to revive the baby.

One of the car's other passengers apparently told Moody that her three-month-old baby was in the back seat. After the rescue, the baby was taken to the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for observation.

The car overturned when its driver lost control of his vehicle in the snow, and the car rolled down an embankment into more than two feet of water. The driver and two other passengers were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
