CBS's San Francisco affiliate reports that a 4-year-old boy has miraculously survived a 230-foot plunge from a cliff on Bodega Head in Sonoma County. The boy reportedly fell while walking with his mother on a trail on Monday evening, landing on a beach on Bodega Bay below.
Within 30 minutes of arriving on scene, rescuers descended 238 feet to a beach to reach the boy who was found conscious and crying, according to [Bodega Bay Fire Protection District Fire Chief Sean] Grinnell.
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports two firefighter-paramedics rappelled down with a rescue basket and reached the boy, with help from illumination flares fired into the air from a Coast Guard motor lifeboat. [CBS]
The boy is reportedly in critical but stable condition.
