At least two people were killed Sunday and several injured during three separate explosions in China's Xinjiang province.
Chinese state media said that one blast targeted a shopping area in Luntai county, while the other two were reported in nearby towns. "At present, all the injured have been sent to hospital for full treatment, local social order is normal, and the cases are being investigated," the Xinjiang Communist Party committee said.
Xinjiang has seen "rising tensions" between the local Muslim Uighur and Han Chinese settlers, the BBC reports. Earlier on Sunday, state media reported that 17 police officers and officials were punished over attacks that took place in the city of Kashgar last July and killed dozens of people.
