Jay Carney says it's 'not going to be a good year for Democrats'

Former White House press secretary Jay Carney, in his new role as a CNN contributor, appeared on the network's State of the Union program yesterday and said that 2014 is "not going to be a good year for Democrats, by definition."

The sixth year "is always particularly bad for a president's party," Carney said, adding that because so many Democrats are defending seats in red states where Mitt Romney soundly defeated Obama, "there's no outcome in November that anybody could say would be great for Democrats, except for barely holding onto the Senate."
