About 1,400 children were sexually abused by criminal gangs over 16 years in the English city of Rotherham, according to a report released Tuesday. City officials ordered the inquiry after five men were found guilty in 2010 of exploiting teenage girls. "There were examples of children who had been doused in petrol and threatened with being set alight," said lead author Alexis Jay. The perpetrators, mostly from the city's Pakistani community, allegedly targeted girls from ages 11 to 16. Read more about the report at The Guardian.
