America is America's most hated World Cup team

With the World Cup set to kick off Thursday, a new survey conducted by YouGov for The New York Times finds that a plurality of Americans are rooting against Team U.S.A.
In the survey, 5.4 percent of respondents say they are rooting against the Yanks, a hair more than the 5.2 percent who are cheering against Russia. (An enormous chunk of respondents had no response, which sounds about right given America's overwhelming indifference to soccer.)
The American team is also the leading bête noire in Russia (19 percent), Mexico (16 percent), Italy (7 percent) and, for whatever reason, Australia (5 percent).
