After a bruising 2014, President Obama's approval rating is back up to 46 percent to start the new year, according to a CBS poll released Wednesday. That's a seven-point increase since last October, right before Democrats got creamed in the midterm elections. Meanwhile, 46 percent of Americans disapprove of the president's job performance, per CBS.

The uptick in CBS' survey is right in line with Gallup's recent results, which have found Obama's approval rating steadily rising since mid-December. The spike comes amid a flurry of good economic news, most recently including a dip in the unemployment rate to 5.6 percent.
