Innovation of the week: the Stir Kinetic Desk
A new "smart desk" could make your trendy standing desk seem passé, said Ramy Zabarah at Popular Mechanics. The California-based company Stir has developed a "state-of-the-art workspace" called the Stir Kinetic Desk, which automatically adjusts to your sitting or standing height, "learns from you, reminds you when to stand, and helps you track all the health benefits of ditching the sitting tradition." The "sleek, minimalist" design features built-in outlets and USB ports to keep it "clutter free," and a tiny control panel the size of an iPhone embedded in the lower left corner tells you when to stand and sit. The desk can also pair via Bluetooth with Jawbone, Fitbit, or Nike Band wearables. At $3,890, the Stir Kinetic's biggest downside is its price. But "if you're in the market for a $4,000 desk, go crazy."
