Selma director Ava DuVernay is taking her talents to the small screen. In a creative collaboration with Oprah Winfrey, DuVernay will write, direct, and produce a dramatic series based on Natalie Baszile's novel Queen Sugar, which follows a woman who inherits a Louisiana sugarcane farm. The series will premiere on Winfrey's OWN.
On Twitter, DuVernay expressed her admiration for other film directors who have jumped to television, and thanked Winfrey for the opportunity:
