Lionsgate is already trying to figure out how to make more Hunger Games movies
Lionsgate already managed to extend the life of the Hunger Games franchise by splitting Mockingjay, the final volume of the book series, over two movies. But in a Hollywood era that can't let any franchise go until it's been milked of every last dollar, it's no great surprise the studio is already scheming for new ways to continue the Hunger Games series after it concludes with Mockingjay, Part 2 later this year.
In a conference call with analysts, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said that he's "actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities" for the Hunger Games series. He didn't elaborate on what those possibilities might be, but in the meantime, Hunger Games fans can let their imaginations run wild. (Personally, I'm pulling for a Muppet Babies-style animated prequel starring Lil' Katniss.)
In the same conference call, Feltheimer conceded that Mortdecai was "clearly a disappointment" for the studio, dashing hopes for any prequels or sequels set in the Mortdecai universe.
