Joe Biden is definitely the more hands-on half of the president-vice president team, and he is also famously prone to gaffes. Biden combined both those traits on Tuesday. The Associated Press' Josh Lederman highlights two "downright awkward" moments, the first being Biden's observation, to a room full of Muslim and African-American community leaders, that "an awful lot" of Somali immigrants drive cabs in Wilmington, Delaware.
That was overshadowed, though, by Biden's "up close and personal" moment with Stephanie Carter while he was swearing in her husband, new Defense Secretary Ashton Carter. Biden called Mrs. Carter over, rested his hands on her shoulder for about 20 seconds, then whispered something in her ear. "It's unknown what Biden said to Stephanie Carter," says The Hill's Eric Garland, "but his whispered message made the two laugh."
