Police are warning New Englanders plagued by overwhelming amounts of snow to beware of people who show up in unmarked vehicles and offer to do work without first producing a business card or professional license.
The Angus family of Bedford, Massachusetts paid close to $3,000 after a pair of men charged an initial fee of $1,000 to clear snow from their house’s roof, then came back and demanded more money, AP reports.
Several senior citizens have fallen victim to similar scams by other ne’er-do-wells in the Northeast. Residents are advised to get a set price down in writing before agreeing to pay to any services.
