The number of deaths from Ebola has passed 10,000

The Ebola virus

New figures released by the World Health Organization show that 10,004 people have died from Ebola in Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. However, the amount of new cases is declining.

More than 24,350 people have been infected in the outbreak, but the disease is slowing down. Liberia has no confirmed Ebola patients who are in its treatment centers, Time reports, but none of the three countries have declared the outbreak officially over. Sierra Leone is the worst hit, with 11,677 reported cases.

The figures come as an American healthcare worker infected with Ebola while working in Sierra Leone arrived in Maryland on Friday for treatment.
