Elton John plans to boycott Dolce & Gabbana after controversial comments on IVF

Elton John has some strong words for the fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, who told an Italian magazine they disagreed with people who used a "rented uterus" in order to have children. "You are born to a mother and a father — or at least that's how it should be," Dolce said. "I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from catalog."

How dare you refer to my beautiful children as "synthetic". And shame on you for wagging your judgemental little fingers at IVF - a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfil their dream of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions. I shall never wear Dolce and Gabbana ever again. #BoycottDolceGabbanaA photo posted by Elton John (@eltonjohn) on Mar 14, 2015 at 10:29pm PDT

John, whose sons with husband David Furnish were born via surrogate, wrote on his Instagram account: "How dare you refer to my beautiful children as 'synthetic.' And shame on you for wagging your judgmental little fingers at IVF — a miracle that has allowed legions of loving people, both straight and gay, to fulfill their dreams of having children. Your archaic thinking is out of step with the times, just like your fashions." He ended his post by saying he will never wear the Dolce & Gabbana label again, and urged followers to #BoycottDolceGabbana.

On Sunday, the designers said in a statement they didn't mean to judge anyone when they spoke with Panorama, and Dolce said his view is based on growing up in a Sicilian family "made up of a mother, a father, and children. I am very well aware of the fact that there are other types of families and they are as legitimate as the one I've known."
