Russia's newest tank can choose its own target

Russia is testing out its latest prototype, and it could be powerful enough to replace all of Russia's existing tracked assault vehicles.

The 25-ton Kurganets BMP-25 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) was seen rehearsing for Russia's May 9th Victory Day parade. It can operate underwater, and its firing system of anti-tank guided missile launchers is "capable of choosing its own targets," Engadget reports.

The Kurganets-25 will reportedly carry about six soldiers, and it's equipped with a 30mm cannon. Meanwhile, three people will operate the turret remotely. The prototype is part of Russia's Armata Universal Combat Platform.

Xinhua News reports that Russia's Defense Ministry will receive 2,300 Armata tanks by 2020, which would modernize 70 percent of Russia's tanks. Twenty-four of the Kurganets are expected to participate in the May parade. Check out the tank in the video below. —Meghan DeMaria
