Jon Stewart sees progress in new GOP gotcha question: 'Would you attend a gay wedding?'

In 2012, Republican presidential candidates fielded the question of whether they would support a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman, Jon Stewart noted on Tuesday's Daily Show. Most said yes. This year, they're being asked if they would attend the same-sex wedding of a relative or close friend. See, Stewart said, apparently "this election is going to boil down to who do you trust to pick up the phone at 3 a.m. — and RSVP to a gay wedding."

That evolution of the gay-marriage question is one sign of how far America has shifted in four years, Stewart said, but so is how the Republican candidates answered it. "Here's how far this issue has moved," he said. "Some of the most conservatively credentialed of the candidates are at least going to the reception." Except Rick Santorum, of course.
