Republicans like to raise money in Texas, Democrats prefer California

If American politics were a middle-school gym class kickball game, Texas and California would always get to be the team captains: They're big, loud, and have what it takes to win — which in real life means money.

When Republican candidates fundraise outside their own states, Texas, and especially Houston, is their top destination. For Democrats, it's California, particularly Los Angeles. However, there is one thing both parties can agree upon: There's good money to be had in New York City and Washington, D.C., though both cities favor Democrats by a significant margin.
