The new trailer for Warner Bros.' Peter Pan prequel looks like Tim Burton's leftovers
Can you make a Tim Burton movie without Tim Burton? Watch the new trailer for the long-in-the-works Peter Pan prequel Pan, and decide whether you're up for another $150 million "re-imagining" of a classic story, complete with goofy hats, wacky accents, and an uncanny valley level of CGI:
Pan is set years before the events of Peter Pan, as Peter (Levi Miller) enters Neverland, encountering the legendary Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) and an up-and-coming pirate named Hook (Garrett Hedlund). It also features Tiger Lily, the Indian princess from the original Peter Pan — and has already drawn controversy by casting the lily-white Rooney Mara in the role.
Pan has had a relatively troubled path to the box office. The film has repeatedly been delayed — from June 2015 to July 2015, and finally to October 2015, in an apparent bid to avoid the competition from other summer blockbusters. That said, in recent years, audiences have flocked to similar live-action reboots like Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, and Cinderella. We'll see if Pan can conquer the box office when it arrives in October.
