If you live in Fairbanks, Alaska, consider yourself warned.
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game posted a notice on its official Facebook page Wednesday that several Arctic lampreys have fallen out of the sky over Fairbanks in the past week. The Arctic lamprey is an impressively strange-looking fish, and probably not something you'd want to find in your backyard:
The department said it has received several calls about the eel-like fish appearing in strange locations, including a parking lot and someone's front lawn. Officials believe that seagulls are carrying the lampreys from the Chena River and accidentally dropping them while flying. While the lampreys aren't as terrifying as the department's photo suggests — they only grow to be about a foot long — they do have sharp teeth. If you stumble across a land-bound lamprey, the best thing to do is call Alaska's fish and game department.
