One of the most acclaimed fantasy novels of the 21st century is heading to the small screen. American Gods — the sweeping Neil Gaiman novel that offers a trip through an America populated by mythological deities both old and new — has been ordered to series by Starz, with Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller and Kings creator Michael Green serving as co-showrunners.
"I am thrilled, scared, delighted, nervous and a ball of glorious anticipation," said Gaiman in a statement. "The team that is going to bring the world of American Gods to the screen has been assembled like the master criminals in a caper movie: I'm relieved and confident that my baby is in good hands."
Though American Gods has already been greenlit, the start of production is dependent on the casting of Shadow, the novel's central protagonist. With any luck, the wait won't be long; "The search for Shadow begins today!" Starz CEO Chris Albrecht said in a statement.
