Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) is going against the grain on gun-control laws as he prepares to sign a pair of bills into law that will expand gun rights. On Wednesday, the likely Republican presidential candidate will sign a bill to eliminate the state's 48-hour waiting period for people purchasing firearms and another bill to allow police officers that are either off duty or retired to carry concealed weapons on public school grounds.
The bill passed through both houses of the state's Republican-controlled legislature earlier in June, amid supporters' claims that the laws will allow people to better protect themselves. Opponents worry the new laws will make it easier for people to get ahold of guns. Walker's signing of the bills comes exactly one week after the shooting in a Charleston church that left nine people dead.
