New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) will announce that he's running for president from his hometown of Livingston, New Jersey, on Tuesday, reports say. The announcement will be made at Livingston High School, "the first place where [Christie] was president."
Polls in December 2013 showed Christie within a few points of Democratic favorite Hillary Clinton, but the fallout from the Bridgegate scandal has since hurt his standing. A Fairleigh Dickinson University poll released last Tuesday showed the governor at a 30 percent approval rating in New Jersey, while a Suffolk University poll showed he only has the support of 5 percent of likely voters in New Hampshire, a key early primary state.
