Police have a new lead in the whereabouts of the two murderers who escaped from an upstate New York prison three weeks ago. A spokesman for the New York state police said Friday that Richard Matt and David Sweat may be headed toward Canada. Investigators last found evidence of the men's whereabouts on Thursday in a burglarized cabin in Malone, New York. Police believe the men are still somewhere in upstate New York but are heading north; Canadian and American authorities are working together to ensure the escaped convicts don't cross the border.

The fugitives' escape was first discovered on June 6 and has led to a weeks-long chase involving more than 1,100 officers. New York state is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of each man. The prisoners are on the 15 most wanted fugitives list.
