Inspired by Forrest Gump, Barclay Oudersluys set out on a 100-day, 3,150-mile run on May 9. Every day since, he's been rising at 6 a.m. to begin logging as much as 33 miles a day. The Michigan native, 23, is following Forrest's exact footsteps, running from the Santa Monica Pier in California to Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde, Maine. Oudersluy's trek is aptly dubbed Project Gump.
So why's he doing it? The seasoned triathlete and ultra-marathon runner wanted to do something big, so he looked to Forrest's infamous run for guidance. "I decided if Forrest Gump could run across the country, I could do it too," Oudersluys told Reuters. His journey is expected to end August 16.
Run, Barclay, run.
