Only 3 in 10 Americans think Hillary Clinton is honest

Everyone expects Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic nominee for president in 2016. But a new poll suggests that it's not because Americans view Clinton all that favorably.

It's not Clinton's capability that Americans are calling into question — it's her character. A new Associated Press-GfK poll found that just three out of 10 Americans say the word "honest" describes Clinton, and just four in 10 saw her as "compassionate."

Democratic voters instead described Clinton to The Associated Press as "a little stiff," "run-of-the-mill," and not all that sincere of genuine. "I used to like her, but I don't trust her," Donald Walters of Louisville, Kentucky, told AP. "Ever since she's announced her candidacy for the presidency I just haven't liked the way she's handled things. She doesn't answer questions directly."

Since the Associated Press-GfK poll taken was last taken at the end of April, Clinton's unfavorable rating has increased by eight percentage points. Now just 39 percent of Americans have a favorable view of Clinton, compared to nearly 50 percent who do not.
