White congressman claims to be just 'as Hispanic and Latino' as Julian Castro
Talk about a comeback flop. In response to the claim that the GOP isn't faring so well among Hispanic voters, Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) took a swing at Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro with this tweet on Friday morning:
Castro, who is rumored to be a potential vice presidential candidate for Hillary Clinton, has Mexican roots and is, according to The Daily Beast's report, wildly popular in the Latino community. While Castro was born in the U.S., his grandmother crossed the U.S.-Mexico border as a child in 1920.
According to a 2002 local newspaper profile dug up by Mother Jones, King's ancestry is Irish, German, and Welsh.
