Time to forget everything you assumed about France! It turns out that the nation that's perhaps best known for its delicious concoctions of fermented grapes is increasingly spurning alcohol, a French opinion poll has found. Only 12 percent of French men and women order something alcoholic every day; of those, the vast majority are men over 60. Today, fewer than one in two people drink alcohol when they go out.

"Right now, all I ever serve is Perrier and Coke," one Parisian-style bar patron told The Telegraph. "Yesterday, I had friends 'round and they ended up drinking all the fruit juice that was supposed to be for the kids," a French woman said.
