Trump closes in on Clinton in a hypothetical general-election matchup

If Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump face off in the general election, Clinton wouldn't necessarily be a shoo-in. The latest CNN/ORC national poll released Wednesday reveals that "in a hypothetical general-election matchup between Clinton and Trump, Clinton holds a 51 percent to 45 percent advantage," Politico reports. Four percent of registered voters responded that they'd vote for neither candidate.
While Clinton's lead over Trump is certainly still a lead, it's one that continues to diminish. Clinton's hypothetical lead over Trump stands at 6 percentage points now, but last month she led Trump by 16 points, with a 56 percent to 40 percent advantage. The month before that, her advantage over Trump was even larger, at 59 percent to 39 percent.
The latest poll was conducted between August 13 and 16 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
