Kentucky clerk's lawyers appeal contempt ruling

Rowan County, Kentucky, Clerk Kim Davis' lawyers on Sunday officially appealed the contempt of court ruling that landed her in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Davis, an apostolic Christian who believes gay marriage is a sin, stopped issuing all marriage licenses in June after the Supreme Court said same-sex couples had the right to marry nationwide. Davis' staff began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples on Friday after Davis was jailed.
