Jon Hamm won the first — and only — Emmy for acting on Mad Men

After 16 nominations, Jon Hamm finally took home the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy for his turn as Don Draper on Mad Men. It was also the first — and, since the program is now over, last — time any Mad Men actor has won an Emmy for their work on the show.

"There has been a terrible mistake, clearly," Hamm joked after he climbed (yes, climbed) on stage. Hamm was nominated a total of 12 times for Mad Men — eight nods for acting, and four as a producer — and four times for guest stints on Tina Fey shows, Vox reports. During the show's run, the actors of Mad Men were nominated for a total of 36 Emmys. Watch Hamm's speech below. Catherine Garcia
