A judge approved Caitlyn Jenner's request to legally change her name and gender Friday. That means she can obtain legal documents like a driver's license, passport, and Social Security card with the name Caitlyn Marie Jenner, as opposed to her birth name of William Bruce Jenner, Vanity Fair reports.

The former Olympic gold medalist came out as a transgender woman earlier this year, formally unveiling her new identity in a July Vanity Fair cover story.

"If you want to call me names, make jokes, doubt my intentions, go ahead, because the reality is, I can take it," Jenner said at the ESPYs in July, when she accepted the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. "But for the thousands of kids out there coming to terms with being true to who they are, they shouldn't have to take it."
