Stephen Colbert mocks Marco Rubio&#039;s adopt-a-staffer ploy

Stephen Colbert got a big cheer from his Late Show audience Thursday when he noted that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) raised $26 million for his presidential campaign over the past three months, nearly as much as Hillary Clinton and more than twice the amount raised by Jeb Bush. But he mostly poked fun at a "breakthrough moment in campaign fundraising" from Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.): You can "adopt" one of his staffers for $250 a day. "That really pulls at the heartstrings," Colbert said. "I wasn't going to donate to Marco Rubio, but I can't let his staff — who are evidently orphans — go unpurchased." He added that he was committed to helping out those poor staffers any way he could, short of giving Rubio money. So he made a Save the Children–inspired PSA, which gets a little Coen Brothers at the end. Watch below. Peter Weber
