Before starting his standup comedy career in the U.S., new Daily Show host Trevor Noah was an accomplished actor and comedian in South Africa, Jimmy Kimmel noted on Wednesday's Kimmel Live. Noah explained that he left his home country for the U.S. because the U.S. dictates what entertains the rest of the world, and in his first comedy tour he performed in 40 states, in mostly tiny clubs. One of those clubs was in El Paso, Texas, Noah said, and Google almost got him deported. He was looking for a mall where he could buy sneakers, but Google led him to the border instead, where a U.S. Border Patrol agent took notice and was about to send him unwillingly to Ciudad Juarez. Noah had left his passport at the hotel, he said, but at a crucial moment thought to have the Border Patrol agent Google him, which saved him from a one-way visit to Mexico. "Google got me into it, but it also got me out of it," Noah said. "It saved me — it completely saved me." Watch below. Peter Weber
