On Sunday night, for the second year in a row — though the first as a quartet, without Zayn Malik — One Direction was named artist of the year at the American Music Awards. One Direction also won best pop/rock duo or group for the second year running. Taylor Swift, 2013 artist of the year and no-show at this year's ceremony, won honors for best pop/rock album (1989) and song of the year ("Blank Space"), and as favorite adult contemporary artist of 2015. Other winners include Sam Hunt (new artist of the year), Ed Sheeran (pop/rock male artist), Ariana Grande (pop/rock female artist), Luke Bryan (male country artist), and Carrie Underwood (female country artist).

Celine Dion sang an Edith Piaf song to honor the victims of the Paris attack, while Jennifer Lopez opened and Justin Bieber closed the show with medleys. Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth made out on stage after singing a duet about Marvin Gaye. You can see bits of all of that in the Associated Press roundup below. Peter Weber
