The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be adding Cheap Trick, N.W.A., Chicago, Steve Miller, and Deep Purple to its ranks, The New York Times reported Thursday. Cheap Trick, Chicago, and Steve Miller were all first time nominees. N.W.A, who was featured in the 2015 film Straight Outta Compton, is only the fifth hip-hop group to be added to the Hall of Fame, following Grandmaster Flash, Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys, and Public Enemy.
Not everyone gets to be so lucky as this year's inductees, of course: With performers becoming eligible for the Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album, disco group Chic was passed over for a record 10th time this year. Nine Inch Nails, the Smiths, Janet Jackson, Chaka Khan, Los Lobos, the Spinners, and Yes are among the other major acts to get turned down.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony will be taped in Brooklyn on April 8 and broadcast by HBO later that spring.
