Rand Paul suspended his bid for the Republican presidential nomination Wednesday. The Kentucky senator's decision to drop out follows his disappointing fifth-place finish in the Iowa caucuses Monday and his consistent struggle to gain traction in the polls.
"It's been an incredible honor to run a principled campaign for the White House," Paul said in a statement, promising that the "the fight is far from over." "Today, I will end where I began, ready and willing to fight for the cause of liberty."
Paul had initially decided against suspending his campaign after the Iowa caucuses, Politico reports, and went on to begin campaigning in New Hampshire before ultimately making the call. He will now pivot his attention to his Senate re-election race.
