Hours after explosions rocked Belgium's Zaventem airport in Brussels and a metro station near EU buildings in central Brussels, French Prime Minister Manuel Valis declared that Europe is at war. "We are at war," Valis said. "We have been subjected for the last few months in Europe to acts of war."
The attacks in Brussels, reportedly the work of suicide bombers, come just months after the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris that left 130 dead, and days after police arrested Salah Abdeslam, the only known surviving suspected attacker from the Paris terrorist attacks.
French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve also called for Europe to "further boost coordination and the fight against terrorism" and announced that Paris would be deploying an additional 1,600 police. "These events that strike at the heart of Europe... show the need to reinforce even more the fight against terrorism," Cazeneuve said.
