Astronaut sets the record for the fastest marathon ever run in space

British astronaut Tim Peake became the first man to run a marathon in space Sunday when he finished the London Marathon in an impressive three hours and 35 minutes from a treadmill in the International Space Station. Prior to Peake's race, the fastest extraterrestrial marathon was completed by U.S. astronaut Sunita Williams in 2007, who, as the first astronaut to ever run 26.2 miles in space, finished in four hours and 23 minutes.
Despite the added difficulties of being strapped onto the treadmill, dealing with muscle loss from spending four months in space, and squeezing training in around an astronaut's demanding schedule, Peake managed stay within minutes of his time from the 1999 London Marathon, which he ran on Earth.
