On Wednesday, Bernie Sanders plans to lay off at least half of his campaign staff, including advance staff members and field staff members, sources told The New York Times.
A campaign official and former campaign staff member who asked for anonymity said some of the terminated staffers may be moved into positions at his Senate office. Sanders is continuing his campaign even though Hillary Clinton was declared the presumptive Democratic nominee by The Associated Press on Monday, and has said he will work on lobbying superdelegates between now and July's Democratic National Convention. A spokesman for Sanders said he will return to his home in Vermont on Wednesday, and then will hit the trail again Thursday for rallies in Washington, D.C.
