More than 60 percent of Americans are 'alarmed' by the presidential election

If you've been feeling increasingly unsettled about the upcoming presidential election, you're definitely not alone. A new USA Today/Suffolk Poll out Monday revealed that a whopping 61 percent of Americans admit to feeling "alarmed" about the election and the direction the country is headed.
The poll of 1,000 likely voters found that many feel "less safe living in the United States than they used to, and gives negative ratings to both presidential candidates," USA Today reports. Just 23 percent reported feeling excited about the change November's election will bring.
Aside from feeling alarmed, there is one other thing the "sharply polarized electorate" agrees on, USA Today notes: Just 9 percent of voters reported feeling bored by this election.

The poll, conducted from June 26 to 29, has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
