Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke on Sunday requested assistance from the National Guard to deal with expected further unrest in Milwaukee after a night of violent protests and burning buildings.

"We cannot allow for a repeat of what happened last night," Clarke wrote in a statement. "I am going to utilize all available resources to accomplish that." Clarke said he made the request after discussing it with Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Major General Donald Dunbar of the National Guard, suggesting the deployment will likely be approved.
