On Wednesday, a judge in Brazil ordered a search and seizure warrant for U.S. Olympic swimmers Ryan Lochte and James Feigen, CNN reported. By collecting the athletes' passports, authorities hoped to keep them in the country as they continued to investigate the swimmers' claim that they, along with two other American swimmers, were robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro early Sunday.
However, when authorities arrived at the athletes village Wednesday morning, the swimmers had "already moved out," The Associated Press reported. Lochte's lawyer, Jeff Ostrow, told CNN that Lochte had already left the country before the judge issued the order; due to U.S. Olympic security protocol, it is unclear whether Feigen is still in Brazil.
At this point in the investigation, police are struggling to find evidence of the robbery and gather "key details" in interviews with the swimmers, The Associated Press reported. Although the swimmers said they were robbed in a taxi, police reportedly cannot find any witnesses or their tax driver.
