Donald Trump announced in a national security speech at the Union League of Philadelphia on Wednesday that his plans to defeat the Islamic State will include military warfare, cyber warfare, financial warfare, and ideological warfare. Additionally, Trump said that within 30 days of taking office he would ask military generals for a plan to bring down the terrorist group — despite the fact that he has previously questioned their knowledge:
Trump stressed that his foreign policy proposals would emphasize diplomacy, not destruction, as he claimed Hillary Clinton has wrought during her time in government. "She's trigger happy and very unstable," Trump said of Clinton, promising that his administration's actions in the Middle East will be "tempered by realism."
The Trump administration's approach to foreign policy would also include increased military spending and the lifting of automatic cuts to the military budget. Trump proposed the development of a "state-of-the-art missile defense system," an Air Force of "at least 1,200 fighter aircraft," a Navy "of 350 surface ships and submarines," and an active army of "around 540,000."
