Iraqi special forces entered Mosul's city limits Tuesday, after advancing from the east over the past two weeks during an offensive that aims to reclaim the Iraqi city from the Islamic State. Mosul is ISIS's last major stronghold in Iraq, and the breach Tuesday marked "the first time government forces have entered the city in more than two years," The New York Times reported.

Troops have reportedly taken control of the state TV building in Kukjali, but now must battle fierce resistance from the jihadists as they push into the city's center.
