The Late Show was taped before Game 7 of the World Series on Wednesday night, so Stephen Colbert hedged his bets with a sort of choose-your-own-adventure open. First he congratulated the Cleveland Indians on their big (potential) win, and also the live goat he was holding. "As you know, in 1945 the owner of Chicago's Billy Goat Tavern cursed the Chicago Cubs because they kicked his goat out of the game," he explained. "Well, apparently the curse worked really well. Goat, your power is undeniable and we stand in awe of your black magic. All hail evil goat!" Colbert, a Chicago Cubs fan, was notably more ebullient in the second part where he celebrated the Cubs' victory — which, as it turns out, happened. And that goat?
