House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) was admitted to George Washington University Hospital on Tuesday and diagnosed with pneumococcal pneumonia, his office announced Wednesday.
"He is being treated with antibiotics and resting, and is expected to make a full recovery quickly," spokeswoman Katie Grant said in a statement. "He looks forward to being back at work very soon."
Hoyer, 79, has been the No. 2 House Democrat for more than 15 years. He spent the weekend campaigning for Democrats in Wisconsin and Illinois, his 25th campaign trip this cycle, Politico reports, and he also visited a community health center in Chicago.
